So far, so good. I'm keeping up on the word count, doing even a little better than my goal. Something strange has happened, though. The last novel I wrote during NaNoWriMo was most definitely ChickLit. I've thought about writing in a YA genre, or for children, but mostly I figured if I ever wrote a novel, that's the genre it would be. With my first novel, I was right.
This one though...the idea I had for it initially would definitely have fallen under the ChickLit heading. But when I started typing yesterday, not a bit of my original idea came out. Instead this somewhat dark story started taking shape. It seems I'm writing a Thriller this time. I had never even considered that as a genre for myself.
The story, like my first novel (still not finished or ready for querying, and possibly never will be), is just coming out. It's like it happens in my head as I'm writing, and I just have to keep up with what the characters are doing. It's the first time since 2010 that I've felt this way about a story. Every time I come to the end of one thought and worry the next one won't appear, there it is. The next section, just telling me to hurry up and type it in.
I guess I'm just feeling good about this so far and wanted to share. One more day off to write, then I'll be back to doing it while working full time!
